Well, this is a mess.

Hi loves! Long time, no chat (since January, wowza). It’s been a very interesting few months, that’s for sure.

I’m okay, still haven’t come down with COVID-19 yet. Considering I’ve been working at 4 different hospitals and various offices across the state, I’m counting myself blessed.

Every day is getting worse here, but we’re hanging in there. Supplies of personal protective equipment are still pretty scarce. 😣 We’re seeing the surge in my state now and I’m hoping we can keep our hospitalization and death rates down enough to manage this. I’ve already been granted “disaster privileges” for every hospital in the area.

There are clearly WAY more positive cases than are being reported. The majority of people are not being tested (and asked to simply stay home and wait out their symptoms) because there are not enough tests, and frankly, not enough PPE to administer them. I’ve been wearing the same mask for the past week and plan to until it’s no longer functioning or soiled. We’re conserving as much as possible without risking lives, but other states are not so lucky. Many of my med school friends in NYC have told me the situation is a disaster there and looking pretty dire.

Unfortunately, we’re in this for the long haul since this virus is taking on a classic pandemic spread. I understand the economic impact is going to be profound if we don’t restart our economy, but I promise you, if we open back up too soon, that curve is going to shoot right up again and we’re going to lose more lives. We HAVE to balance these decisions carefully.

This is not about the mortality rate, per se, because most of us will survive this. It’s about the VOLUME of cases hitting the hospitals, as I’m sure you’ve all heard time and time again. It’s about the people who WOULD survive if they had a ventilator available to them, but may not have one if the hospitals are overrun. All of these comparisons to the flu are irrelevant because the flu causes a steady flow of infections. COVID-19 is more like a rising tsunami in terms of healthcare burden.

I know everyone is hopeful for drugs, but this virus is moving faster than we can imagine, and maybe they will help. Maybe they won’t. We can’t necessarily rely on this or a vaccine to suddenly cure everyone. While it’s important to continue work on both of these elements (and trust me, we are working on them), we also have to do damage control. We have to PREVENT this virus from spreading i.e. stay home, social distance, practice good hygiene, and remain out of harm’s way.

As you can probably guess, I haven’t done much in the writing realm of my life. But I do have some news to share and a book sale if you all need a little escape for a while. I think we could all use one!

(On a brighter note, gotta love coming home to this the other day! 😂😍 Hubby, my sister, and my BFF got me all the necessities! ❤️ PSA: the masks are unused 😏)

Heaven is hell without her…

Former Navy SEAL Sebastian “Bash” Lockard died in Afghanistan after leaping on a grenade to save his comrades. Little did he know his act of heroism would grant him a ticket into Heaven’s elite army as one of the few and powerful Archangels. Struggling with his new existence, Bash still retains his human memories, leaving behind a wife he loves with all of his heart. Although he’s forbidden to see her, he can’t resist her lure, or the mortal desires he harbors for her.

As a young widow and nurse, Irene Lockard still mourns her husband two years after his untimely death. His absence is everywhere, and when her best friend weds, she hits an emotional rock bottom. As if summoned from the skies above, Sebastian appears before her, and they share an unforgettable night. But when he once again vanishes, she wonders if she’s truly gone mad with grief.

The only way Sebastian can remain with Irene is if he makes the ultimate sacrifice. But will she overcome her fear of losing him again to another war?
