Interview with PNR author, Tracey Wood!

Happy Friday, lovelies! I have fellow Soul Mate and paranormal romance author, Tracey Wood, on my blog today. 😀 She’s talking a little bit about herself, her difficult journey and her debut release, MIDNIGHT ANGEL. Read on to find out more about this fab lady and her brand new release. 😀

Welcome, Tracey! Tell us a little about you.

I’ve been married for thirty-one years this year. I live in Staffordshire in the United Kingdom and have lived there all of my life. I have two sons aged 22 and 28. My eldest son is disabled and lives at home. The other lives with his fiancée.

I’d love to visit the UK someday! And thirty-one years of marriage with two boys is definitely impressive. 😉 Tell us about your work.

I work full time for the local government and I am office based. I spend my days working on a computer and my nights writing on one.

Awesome. 😀 If you had a day to do anything you wanted, what would you do?

I am like most women; I love to shop. An all-expenses paid shopping spree would be great. After some liposuction. Then I could have a whole new wardrobe.

I actually wished I loved shopping–I hate it, LOL! But it’s a necessary evil. 😛 Favorite alcoholic beverage?

Actually, I am tea total, well virtually. I have the odd drink at Christmas. I prefer a good cup of coffee. In fairness I have to keep a clear head because of my son and his condition.

Totally understandable. I’m definitely a coffee addict! Favorite music?

Oh this is easy. I love the 80’s and also Motown. I was a teenager in the eighties and love to sing along to the old songs. I do get carried away and forget myself while I’m at work, singing along to the radio.

I love eighties music too, haha! What do you love most about the heroine in your novel?

My heroine is an ordinary, everyday person. She is determined, rises to a challenge and a loyal friend.

She sounds fantastic. 😀 When you first started writing, what were your hopes for the future?

When I started to write Midnight Angel, I did it for fun. I loved writing when I was younger but I stopped as I grew older and started to work. When I had my children I didn’t have the time or the energy. My oldest son took up a lot of time. He had a tracheostomy in his throat until he was five and didn’t walk until the same age. He cannot walk far now and he has a wheelchair to help him when he has to walk any distance. When he was younger I took a lot of home study courses. With the qualifications I gained, I managed to get a job working for a college part time. I continued to do courses and gained an adult and further education teacher qualification. Then a post graduate qualification in Forensic Science. All the course were to improve my career prospects. Which they did.

After doing all of the courses, I found myself with time on my hands. I started to read novels in my spare time and soon found a genre I liked. Paranormal, horror and urban fantasy. When reading some novels, I would sometimes find myself thinking about the plot and how I would write it. I decided to put pen to paper and have a go. In a few short months I had a complete story. Every now and then for years I would read through it and change something or add something.

Wow, what journey you’ve been on between your son, education and writing! Kudos to you, Tracey, seriously. So what made you take the next step in your writing career?

In August 2013, I was struck down with a sudden illness. I had a blood clot on my brain which caused three crescendo TIAs (mini strokes). The blood clot was caused by a 90% stenosis in my carotid artery. Basically, the blood was struggling to flow through my artery. This meant that I had to have an operation to remove the narrowing or I could have further strokes which may kill me. I had the operation which they also told me that I could end up blind, or I may not make it. After having the operation, I later discovered that it had collapsed and I had no blood flow in my right carotid artery.

After all of this and the ongoing problems that came with it, I struggled to get back to work full time, and after 12 months I did it. Back to full time. This was the push I needed and I decided to send my book to a publisher. I did try a couple with no success. They weren’t accepting submissions from authors. If you wanted to submit you had to use a literary agent or they were self-publishing packages. Anyway we know how it turned out. Soul Mate Publishing offered me a contract.

Fantastic! And I’m thrilled you accepted. You deserve a break after all you’ve been through. Any parting thoughts to our dear readers?

I have three mottos in life that I really believe are true: Everything happens for a reason. Life is too short. There is always someone else that is worse off.

Great mottos and I totally agree! Thanks so much for stopping by, Tracey! Great chatting with you. 😀 Without further ado, here’s more about MIDNIGHT ANGEL!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Tracey A Wood lives in Staffordshire in the United Kingdom. She has been married for over thirty years and has two children. One of her boys lives at home due to being disabled and the other has flown the coup. She has three cats that are her babies, and she talks to them all of the time. Funny thing is they don’t answer back.

She loves snowboarding, skiing, jumping out of aeroplanes and bungee jumping. Well, that is when other people are doing them. She prefers to have her nose in a book or writing one. She also loves to people watch which her husband is always telling her to stop doing. She has a job that she enjoys and works full time. Although if she won the lottery, that might change! She also has a very good imagination.

In 2014, she decided to take the bull by the horns and send her manuscript to Soul Mate Publishing. She feels so privileged to have her book published, as this is the first one that she has written. It has made her dream of being a published author a reality. Life really is too short to wait, you’ve got to go for it. She is still working full time and is also working on another book in her limited spare time. Her favourite saying is ‘Everything happens for a reason’ which she also believes is true.

Her books are fast paced and centred on a female lead who finds an inner strength after being thrown into situations that are beyond her control.
