Interview with fantasy author, Jill Archer!

I’ve got the fabulous Jill Archer on my blog today! She has an AWESOME fantasy series that you all have to check out, SRSLY. Read on to find out more about her latest novel, POCKET FULL OF TINDER, and of course, Jill herself!

Welcome, Jill! Tell us about your latest release!

In Pocket Full of Tinder, Noon heads north to Rockthorn Gorge, a bustling mountain town where so many demons live, it’s often referred to as a “demonic anthill.” Once there, she’ll have to deal with bunyips, argopelters, and hidebehinds; snallygasters, skunk apes, and splintercats; a giant lizard, rare swan, and Ari, the drakon who broke her heart… not to mention the enigmatic bomber who threatens them all. Noon’s magic continues to evolve in unexpected ways. New characters are introduced and old characters return. It’s a story of love, impermanence, sacrifice, and survival.

Sounds amazing! I’d love to see a demonic anthill. 😉 What was the hardest thing about writing this book? The easiest?

I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just say that readers who’ve read Noon’s latest installment know which chapters were the hardest to write. With every book, I try to push things past the point where they were before. But there were some unexpected things that happened in book #4 even for me – the writer!

With each book, I start with a fairly detailed outline, but somewhere around the midpoint, the story gets a mind of its own. I think it’s because I need structure and a plan to start a story, but once I’m in it, I want to embrace unscripted moments so that they feel more organic and natural. Of course, that usually means I’m panicked by the ¾ mark with no idea how to end the story.

As for the easiest? Is there anything easy about writing or publishing?! You know what they say – if it was easy, everyone would do it…

I will say though, having a team of people to help you makes things easier. Editor Betsy Mitchell, cover illustrator/designer Rebecca Frank, publicist Roxanne Rhoads, manuscript formatter Meredith Bond, and Latin tutor Joan Havens were all part of my publishing team for Pocket Full of Tinder.

Looks like you have quite the team! And I feel you about the panic, I’m a total pantser at heart. If you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you chose? Why?

Tough question! I’d love to see what a real barghest looks like, so maybe Nova. And it would be fun to meet all the main characters: roguish Rafe, alpha Ari, reluctant-yet-headstrong Noon… glamour-loving Fara and her loyal tiger Virtus…

But I’m going to pick Sartabella, a Fairy Godmother-type character… because who wouldn’t want someone like that in their life? 🙂

I know I would, haha! Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?

Noon Onyx (Maegester-in-Training): I’m torn!

Raphael “Rafe” Sinclair (Noon’s ex-Guardian Angel): Douglas Booth

That’s one sexy cast right there! 😉 So tell us a little about yourself.

I love SweeTARTS and coffee. I hate laundry, pesto, and anything smoked. And I can list every linking verb in less than four seconds thanks to my seventh grade English teacher, Miss Savage, who was awesome.

I love SweeTARTS and coffee too, haha! But I also like pesto and smoked foods. 😛 Tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.

Eight months ago, I started working as a part-time librarian at my local library. I love it! Writing can be lonely and publishing frustrating. The job allows me to reconnect with what drew me to fiction writing in the first place – books! Librarians are the ultimate matchmakers. There’s nothing more satisfying than pairing someone with a book I think they’ll enjoy.

That’s fantastic! As long as you enjoy it, that’s what counts. 😉 So what are you working on now?

Noon Onyx #5. I’m also developing a new series, but that will likely take a while and I haven’t decided yet whether I’ll pitch it to New York or indie publish it once the first novel is complete.

I can totally understand that dilemma. You’ll have to keep us posted! 😀 Thanks so much for stopping by, Jill! It was a pleasure. ❤ Where else can we find you?

www.jillarcher.com

I have a blog where I chat about books, movies, TV shows, interesting places I visit, as well as writing and publishing. Occasionally, I host other writers. It’s fun to see what everyone else is up to and how our writing processes differ.

My quarterly newsletter is a great way for Noon fans to get more info on the series, as well as notification of new releases. And I’m on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads.

Awesome! I do really enjoy your blogs. 😀 Don’t go away yet, Dear Reader! Here’s more about POCKET FULL OF TINDER:

Noon Onyx is back! In this long-awaited fourth installment, Jill Archer returns readers to the dangerous world of Halja, where demons, angels, and humans coexist in an uneasy state of détente.

Maegester-in-Training Noon Onyx feels like she’s done it all – mastered fiery magic, become an adept fighter, learned the law, killed countless demons, and survived having her heart broken by both love and an arrow, but now she’ll face her greatest challenge yet…

Far to the north lies an outpost famous for its unrest – Rockthorn Gorge. The town’s patron has specifically requested Noon’s help. Her assignment? Help the neophyte demon lord build his fiefdom and keep what’s his. The problem? Lord Aristos – Noon’s new employer – is her erstwhile lover, Ari Carmine, the aforementioned heartbreaker. And the number one thing he wants is her.

When Rockthorn Gorge’s viaduct is destroyed by Displodo, an enigmatic bomber, killing a dozen settlers and wounding scores more, Noon sets off early to aid in the search and rescue. Ari is listed among the missing and the suspects are legion. But Noon’s search is just the beginning. Her journey forces Noon to confront not only those she loves, but also enemies hell-bent on destroying them.

EXCERPT:

The claw-and-ball had been chewed clean off. It lay on a patch of sunny parquet floor, just to the right of an antique, aubergine wool rug now covered with the splintered remnants of an eleventh century pedestal table and one very large, ghastly looking, somewhat repentant barghest.

Nova’s head rested on her front paws as her gaze shifted warily from me to Miss Bister, Megiddo’s dormater, or house mother.

“Megiddo’s lobby is not a kennel, Miss Onyx. That”—she motioned dismissively toward Nova—“beast can no longer be housed here.”

I opened my mouth to respond, but Miss Bister continued speaking, her tone rising only infinitesimally, her back as stiff as Luck’s lance must have been, and her expression just as hard. She pointed toward the previously priceless, three-footed piece of furniture that was now a worthless, two-footed pile of kindling.

“No amount of money – or magic – can fix that, Nouiomo. It’s beyond repair. I warned you. I made an exception to my ‘no pets’ rule because you never cause trouble. You never forget your key; you promptly pick up your deliveries; you change your own light bulbs; you double bag your trash. You leave nothing behind in the bathroom; you don’t monopolize the washing machines; you are exceedingly polite to the lift operator; you don’t sing in the shower.”

I suppressed a sigh. After a year and a half of painstaking efforts, harrowing experiences, and endless hours of education, my worth had just been measured by the fact that I could change a light bulb. I’d mastered fiery magic, become an adept fighter, learned the law, killed countless demons (one regrettably, the others much less so), freed myriad immortals from an accursed, tortured bondage, and survived having my heart nearly destroyed by both love and an arrow, yet none of that meant bupkis next to the fact that I double bagged my trash. And yet…

I couldn’t really argue with Miss Bister either. Everything she’d said was true. And who was I to tell her what she should deem important? I respected that she valued domestic order and antiques. I did too, if not nearly as much as I valued the thing that now threatened our continued access to such. I glared at Nova, who swept one paw over her eyes as if she could hide from me and the evidence of what she’d done.

Barghests are giant hellhounds. They’re bigger than bears, fiercer than rabid raccoons, and uglier than naked mole rats. Their teeth are the size of railroad spikes, their claws as sharp as a sickle, their breath as foul as sewage gas. But they are also affectionate, brave, and loyal. What barghests lack in magic, they make up for in devotion. And even though I was plenty mad at Nova for chewing up Miss Bister’s table, I also knew it wasn’t Nova’s fault.

It was mine – for thinking the lobby of a demon law school dormitory would be a good place to keep her.

“Miss Bister, please,” I said. “I’m truly sorry. I know I can’t replace that exact table. But if you would just allow me to—”

“No,” Miss Bister said simply. “Either the beast goes… Or you do.”

I stared at the small, frail, magicless woman in front of me, trying desperately to think of some way to fix this problem. Wasn’t there something I could do, or say, or offer her that would make amends and convince her not to kick us out?

But all I could think of was how useless some of the things our society valued most were. As Miss Bister had pointed out, neither magic nor money would help. If I was going to repair the table, I’d need to find another way. Which would take time. And that meant I’d need to find somewhere else for us to sleep tonight. Because if the beast was going… I was too.

“Yes, Miss Bister,” I said. “I understand.”

She narrowed her eyes, slightly suspicious of my now gracious defeat since I’d just spent the last half-hour trying to persuade her to accept various forms of reparation. But then she nodded, handed me a couple of paper bin bags, and left.

I slid one bag inside the other and stooped down to pick up the slobbery remains of Nova’s mangled chew toy. When I finished, she came over to me and nudged my arm with her head. She let out a woofy whine.

Was she sorry? She darn well better be!

I gave her a scratch behind the ears.

“Now that you’ve sharpened your teeth on my former dormater’s furniture, are you ready to eat some real food for breakfast?”

Interview with multi-genre author, Claire Gem!

Claire Gem is back on my blog for a special author interview! She’s talking about her latest rockstar romance, THE PHOENIX SYNDROME, and it sounds positively AWESOME! Read on to find out more about Claire and her fabulous books.

Welcome, Claire! Tell us about your latest release. 😀

The Phoenix Syndrome is a rock star contemporary romance that’s set in Boston. My heroine, Lannie Marvin, is a research tech in a pharmaceutical lab who has a very bad birthday. First, she’s turning forty. Second, she finds out her marriage is over—has been for quite a while, she just didn’t get the memo. And then at work she gets bitten by one of the mice they’re testing a new drug on—one that’s designed to enhance the libido. Lannie snaps, kidnaps her sister-in-law, and heads off to chase an old dream—a career in music, and a new crush—the drummer of a heavy metal band.

Now THAT is awesome!

Said drummer and composer for the band, Tristan Allard, has a cancer benefit concert every year for his late wife. He’s having a hard time writing new music since he lost his muse. So when a sexually charged Lannie nearly plows him over at the backstage reception, he’s more than ready to get to know her better—along with her interest in music composition.

But their frenzied affair can’t last long. Tristan is headed back to the U.K., and Lannie discovers an elevated sex drive isn’t the only effect of the new drug.

The testing mice have gone deaf.

*gasp* Wow, Claire! That’s a fantastic premise! I love it! ❤ What was the hardest thing about writing this book? The easiest?

I’m going to answer these in reverse order. I had a lot of fun writing this book, since the idea came to me after an actual incident much like the one in the first chapter. I am a heavy metal fan, and attend live concerts often. After one concert, I really did jokingly threaten to run off with the drummer. That was the spark that brought this story concept to life. I do work in a scientific research lab, so researching details about the mouse testing took only a walk down the hall. That was the easy part.

The hard part was putting myself into the shoes of my heroine, Lannie, whose husband has been cheating on her for years, and announces he’s leaving on her fortieth birthday. I have been very lucky in my marriage, having just celebrated 38 years with the same hero. If this really did happen to me, I think I would def go a little crazy. The drugged mouse bite just gave Lannie that much better an excuse for her antics.

I can totally understand that as I would have the same difficulty as you. And I’m also a heavy metal fan! \m/ Woot! If you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you choose? Why?

I would love to bring Lannie to life, because I think she and I would become besties. She’s a soft-hearted romantic, a gritty realist, and a never-give-up fighter. I think she and I are a lot alike.

Awesome. 🙂 Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?

95bce1e7b0cfbfc0a1ab847f88bc49b7

Penelope Cruz for my heroine. Not sure if she can hide the Spanish accent for this role, but if she can’t, I’ll change the script—and Lannie will be Spanish too.

colin_farrell

Colin Farrell for my hero, without hesitation. I may have to run that audition myself, though. For obvious reasons.

*swoon* I love Colin Farrell! And Penelope Cruz is gorgeous. ❤ So tell us a little about yourself.

I was born and grew up in New York, then lived in several other states over the years before settling in Massachusetts nine years ago. My husband and I have three children—twin sons, and a daughter who made us grandparents four years ago. Before my debut novel was published in 2015, I was a regular feature writer for a number of national magazines. My memoir and my debut novel came out within months of each other. Since then, I have written and published three other romance novels, and am almost ready to release my fourth.

Besides writing, marketing, and designing book trailers, my hobbies include collecting exotic orchids, and raising freshwater angelfish. I love spending time with my family, eating out, chocolate, and good wine—preferably all at the same time!

I’m with you on the latter! 😀  Tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.

If they didn’t, they know now—I’m a closet heavy metal fan. At concerts, though, I’m never the oldest one there. My older brother, who goes with me, is.

Ha! Love it! So what are you working on now?

I’m working on another paranormal ghost romance, Spirits of the Heart. This story takes place on the grounds of an abandoned mental asylum in the town where I grew up. The hero is a nighttime security guard, and the heroine works in an addiction unit on the grounds. They are drawn together by the persistent ghost of a little girl who is desperately seeking the spirit of her father who died in the asylum years ago.

Another premise to love! Looking forward to it. 😀 Thank you so very much for stopping in and telling us about your great stories, Claire. Where can we find you?

EXCERPT:

But then there was the drummer. If not for the overhead monitors panning in for close-ups during the performance, I might never have known he existed. What a travesty that would have been.

In a word, he was . . . magnificent. He sat like a king on his throne at the elevated rear of the stage, sparkling silver-flake drums surrounding him like loyal minions. The monitor directly over our seats focused on him often, so close and so clear I could see the sweat glistening on sculpted upper arms, bare beneath a black muscle shirt stretched taut across a broad chest. Some sort of ink crawled over one bicep. A black-and-white paisley bandanna covered most of his head, but long, dark curls framed his face and clung damp against his neck. His facial hair, limited to a sparse mustache and goatee, was chocolate brown. I indulged in the fantasy that his eyes were that same sweet, smoldering color.

His passion for his work was palpable. Hands flying, head bobbing, he was completely engrossed, as if the music were a drug he was tripping on. His hooded eyes gave him the look of a sleepy lover, but when he did open them, I could swear he was gazing directly at me.

Looking back on that night, I can’t be sure how long we’d sat there before I fixated on my drummer boy. The music, which at first grated on my senses as way too loud and completely discordant, gradually began to permeate my brain. Before long, my bare toes started tapping against the carpeted floor. I freed one hand from my cup of wine to pat my thigh in time with the music. When my head began to bob, almost of its own accord, I smiled.

Ah, now I know why they call progressive metal fans head bangers.

Interview with PNR author, Tracey Wood!

Happy Friday, lovelies! I have fellow Soul Mate and paranormal romance author, Tracey Wood, on my blog today. 😀 She’s talking a little bit about herself, her difficult journey and her debut release, MIDNIGHT ANGEL. Read on to find out more about this fab lady and her brand new release. 😀

Welcome, Tracey! Tell us a little about you.

I’ve been married for thirty-one years this year. I live in Staffordshire in the United Kingdom and have lived there all of my life. I have two sons aged 22 and 28. My eldest son is disabled and lives at home. The other lives with his fiancée.

I’d love to visit the UK someday! And thirty-one years of marriage with two boys is definitely impressive. 😉 Tell us about your work.

I work full time for the local government and I am office based. I spend my days working on a computer and my nights writing on one.

Awesome. 😀 If you had a day to do anything you wanted, what would you do?

I am like most women; I love to shop. An all-expenses paid shopping spree would be great. After some liposuction. Then I could have a whole new wardrobe.

I actually wished I loved shopping–I hate it, LOL! But it’s a necessary evil. 😛 Favorite alcoholic beverage?

Actually, I am tea total, well virtually. I have the odd drink at Christmas. I prefer a good cup of coffee. In fairness I have to keep a clear head because of my son and his condition.

Totally understandable. I’m definitely a coffee addict! Favorite music?

Oh this is easy. I love the 80’s and also Motown. I was a teenager in the eighties and love to sing along to the old songs. I do get carried away and forget myself while I’m at work, singing along to the radio.

I love eighties music too, haha! What do you love most about the heroine in your novel?

My heroine is an ordinary, everyday person. She is determined, rises to a challenge and a loyal friend.

She sounds fantastic. 😀 When you first started writing, what were your hopes for the future?

When I started to write Midnight Angel, I did it for fun. I loved writing when I was younger but I stopped as I grew older and started to work. When I had my children I didn’t have the time or the energy. My oldest son took up a lot of time. He had a tracheostomy in his throat until he was five and didn’t walk until the same age. He cannot walk far now and he has a wheelchair to help him when he has to walk any distance. When he was younger I took a lot of home study courses. With the qualifications I gained, I managed to get a job working for a college part time. I continued to do courses and gained an adult and further education teacher qualification. Then a post graduate qualification in Forensic Science. All the course were to improve my career prospects. Which they did.

After doing all of the courses, I found myself with time on my hands. I started to read novels in my spare time and soon found a genre I liked. Paranormal, horror and urban fantasy. When reading some novels, I would sometimes find myself thinking about the plot and how I would write it. I decided to put pen to paper and have a go. In a few short months I had a complete story. Every now and then for years I would read through it and change something or add something.

Wow, what journey you’ve been on between your son, education and writing! Kudos to you, Tracey, seriously. So what made you take the next step in your writing career?

In August 2013, I was struck down with a sudden illness. I had a blood clot on my brain which caused three crescendo TIAs (mini strokes). The blood clot was caused by a 90% stenosis in my carotid artery. Basically, the blood was struggling to flow through my artery. This meant that I had to have an operation to remove the narrowing or I could have further strokes which may kill me. I had the operation which they also told me that I could end up blind, or I may not make it. After having the operation, I later discovered that it had collapsed and I had no blood flow in my right carotid artery.

After all of this and the ongoing problems that came with it, I struggled to get back to work full time, and after 12 months I did it. Back to full time. This was the push I needed and I decided to send my book to a publisher. I did try a couple with no success. They weren’t accepting submissions from authors. If you wanted to submit you had to use a literary agent or they were self-publishing packages. Anyway we know how it turned out. Soul Mate Publishing offered me a contract.

Fantastic! And I’m thrilled you accepted. You deserve a break after all you’ve been through. Any parting thoughts to our dear readers?

I have three mottos in life that I really believe are true: Everything happens for a reason. Life is too short. There is always someone else that is worse off.

Great mottos and I totally agree! Thanks so much for stopping by, Tracey! Great chatting with you. 😀 Without further ado, here’s more about MIDNIGHT ANGEL!

Funny thing is they don’t answer back.

Giveaway and interview with contemporary romance author, Aria Glazki!

Well, hello there, lovelies! 😀 I have the fabulous Aria Glazki on my blog today, talking about her latest spicy contemporary romance, TASTING TEMPTATION, and she also has an awesome prize-pack giveaway! Check out her stories (both personal and fictional)–they’re definitely worth the read. And don’t forget to enter the giveaway below!

Welcome, Aria! Tell us about your latest release.

Tasting Temptation is a super spicy contemporary romance, featuring a couple of characters who want nothing more than some sexy fun from each other—at first. For several chapters, Hunter and Gina don’t even know each other’s names, and neither expects to see the other after the wedding that opens the book (yes, you get to see that happy moment between Kane & Sabella from Mending Heartstrings!). Of course, life gets in the way of their plans, both letting them have a bit more fun together and forcing them to deal with the other’s real-world identity.

Wedding hook-up, sounds awesome. 😉 What was the hardest thing about writing this book? The easiest?

Gina starts this story trying to move forward from a really difficult and hurtful relationship, one which left her with wounds that she’s mostly trying to ignore. Writing that in a genuine way, and leading her through her path to healing in a realistic and relatable way, was definitely a challenge, because as the author you want to be both sensitive to the character and true to life.

The easiest part was knowing she deserved to move past what happened and to find happiness, with a wonderful guy like Hunter—and then getting to make that happen.

Totally agree! Writing about a character with a traumatic past and trying to stay true to that past is always difficult. If you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you choose? Why?

It would probably be Kane, a considerate, charming musician who also knows how to cook and stands up for his convictions. Then again, he has an advantage—he’s the first character from this world who came into my mind and started me on the crazy journey that is being an author.

You can never forget your first! 😀 Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?

Can I poll the audience for this one? I don’t actually create “casts” for my books, usually. I have considered that maybe Olivia Munn could be interesting as Gina…

6901428-olivia-munn-hot

…though I’m sure there are many talented actresses I haven’t heard of who could do the role justice—and that’s why movies have casting directors. 😉 I’m happy to hear suggestions on who should play Hunter!

Touche, re casting directors! Although, I am a big fan of creating casts for my novels–it’s fun and gives me great visuals. 😉 So tell us a little about yourself!

Honestly, my characters are the interesting ones, not me. I’m fairly introverted, and at times I pine for the days when authors were allowed to be recluses, although I love all the wonderful people I’ve met through social media, NaNoWriMo, and RWA. Still, I struggle with all the talking about myself that modern authorship requires. But I promise, I’m much friendlier than it may seem—just shy. As you see here, ask me a good question and you can hardly get me to shut up!

Social media is great fun but can be incredibly draining at times. Tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.

I was born in a country and city which no longer exist (politics are complicated, right?). Bonus: that bear story in my bio is absolutely true (see below!).

Wow, that is fascinating! Sounds like something out of an espionage movie. 😉 What are you working on now?

I’m continuing work on a modern-day retelling of an old French love story, which has been my most time-consuming project to date—it will be a novella, but it’s already taken me over two years to draft (still not done—ack!). I’ve also started work on Bobby’s story; he’s a character who makes an appearance in this book though you see more of him in Mending Heartstrings. And I have about a dozen more projects in my head, all angry at me that there’s just not enough time in the day…

I can definitely relate, haha! So many stories, so little time. 😀 Thank you so much for stopping by and chatting with us today, Aria! And TASTING TEMPTATION sounds like a great read! Where else can we find you?

I’m on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads, and I just joined Instagram, or you can go directly to my website and join my newsletter. I’m also always happy to hear from readers via email: contact AT ariaglazki.com, or there’s a mailing address available on my site. Basically, any way you’d like to contact me, you can 🙂 And of course, I’ll be hanging out right here, checking in on any comments!

Awesome! And now for more about TASTING TEMPTATION:

tastingtemptation-glazki-ebookweb

After last summer’s failed attempt at romance, Gina is absolutely done with men. And especially with millionaires. She has a good job as a fashion editor and amazing friends, and she’s decided she needs nothing else. All she really misses is the sex. But that rush just isn’t worth the risk of being ensnared in another relationship. When the hot bartender at her best friend’s Sonoma wedding suggests some harmless stress relief, she takes him up on the offer. When it’s sufficiently satisfactory, she indulges in a repeat–for the road. When she learns he’s actually the wealthy owner of the vineyard, the mix of fury and fear is damped only by the knowledge that she never has to see him again.

Hunter Cavaliere is determined to honor his grandfather’s legacy, and so far, he’s right on track. The vineyard is thriving, he has plans for expansion, and his wines speak for themselves. The only thing missing is the right woman to share it all. But through his grandparents’ marriage, Hunter learned what true love is, and he’s unwilling to settle for anything else. A woman who judges him because of his money definitely isn’t high up on his list. Still, when circumstance unbelievably keeps bumping him into the intriguing brunette from Portland, he can’t shake the feeling that she is someone he should pursue.

Gina’s poised to run the other way, but one more taste of Hunter may just prove too tempting to resist.

Interview with romance author, Ryan Jo Summers!

The fab Ryan Jo Summers is back on my blog again, this time for an author interview! She’s talking about her latest romantic suspense, UPON THE TIDE, and Chris Pine (YUM!). Read on to find out more!

Welcome, Ryan! Tell us about your latest release. 😀

It’s called Upon the Tide and follows the adventures of high fashion designer and New Yorker Piper Kincaid and beach bum Kade Wyatt. They start out being in the wrong place, wrong time but it soon turns into much more.

Sounds awesome already! What was the hardest thing about writing this book? The easiest?

Hardest thing was moving the story along. I’d write myself into corners and need to go back a few steps. And researching all that Caribbean geography. Wow! I could be a tour guide now. Easiest was the boat. I could live on that sweet baby—if only it were real.

The Caribbean and a boat? I need that, stat! If you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you chose? Why?

Kasey Griffin in “Glimpse Eternity”. The story began as therapy for my current life situation and Kasey was the literary soul I dumped all my problems on. She met my challenges, surprising me with both her courage and her stamina. I’d like to meet her in real life, shake her hand, give her a hug and buy her some coffee.

I can totally relate to that. 🙂 So Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?

I’m going through a Chris Pine infatuation. He has some killer baby blues and would make a great Kade Wyatt.

f0e7fe69bb716f41ded2d9e5ab8d0e9c

(GORGEOUS!)

Piper would need an actress who can play cool and collected, but also have a soft side that sometimes surfaces, pushing that professional polish aside.

Great choice. 😉 This girl approves of those baby blues! Tell us a little about yourself.

I live in North Carolina with my beloved pets. I abhor technology, especially all this new-fangled stuff out lately, but I am learning to slowly appreciate its usefulness to my writing. My idea pastime is hanging out on the wicker sofa on my porch, my dog at my side, watching the falling rain, listening to the wind chimes blow and birds flittering at the feeders. I work on current or future projects and dream of having horses again. Fall and winter are my favorite seasons and I always have a mug of sweet coffee at my side.

Fall, dogs, and coffee, some of my favorite things! 😀 Tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.

March 2015 I adopted a collie from a state collie rescue group. He has severe PTSD issues and suffered a horrible existence for six years before I adopted him. I am chronicling our challenges and growth in a blog and hope to one day turn my journal into a book to share with other families who adopt troubled animals. I am a huge adoption-option advocate and most of the animals in my house came from rough origins.

Aw, that is SO fantastic! I have two cats who were feral kittens, ridden with parasites and starved, and now they’re so spoiled and I LOVE THEM TO DEATH. I’m thrilled you’re doing this and I’ll definitely have to follow this blog of yours. Anywho, back to you. 😉 What are you working on now?

Several things. One, Ty’s rescue blog, which is seemingly always running behind. I am nearly done with my problem child, a women’s fiction novel. Chocolate fudge layer cake is in my near future once I type ‘The End’ to that sweet hunk of manuscript. I have two novels from yesteryear that I am going to re-write this summer. One is a Christian romance and one is a time travel. My two loves. Lastly, because that isn’t nearly enough, I am starting the research for a seventeenth century pirate love story. I probably won’t actually write it till 2017 but it’s needing lots of historical research. That pirate might be one character I’ll want to bring to life.

I love me some pirates! Looking forward to it. 😀 Thanks so much for stopping by again, Ryan, and to you Dear Reader, for sticking around! Tell us where else we can find you!

Now for more about UPON THE TIDE:

Upon The Tide Final 600x912

New York Fashion designer, Piper Kincaid, just wanted a pleasant visit with her cousin down in Florida. That was before she and handsome beach bum, Kade Wyatt, become the targets of a gang of robbers and killers.

Kade simply wanted some fish for his pet seagull. Now he and the lovely exec from out of town are caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse. He’s busy concentrating on Piper when he should be focusing on keeping them alive.

Fleeing for their lives aboard Kade’s houseboat, ‘The Hightide’, they experience risk, surprises, mystery and romance during the Great Caribbean Boat Chase. However, the biggest surprises are waiting for them back at port.

EXCERPT:

Kade moved over to the window, lost in thought for a moment. “I’m not quite ready to share that with anyone, especially someone I just met today,” he said softly, picking up his hat and toying with it before tossing back to the sofa.

“I don’t even know you,” Piper said pointedly.

“You know me,” he corrected, working up to a grin. “We’ve been robbed together, we’ve been shot at together, now we’re stranded here together. Tonight we are going to sleep together.” His grin reached full size at that. “How much more would you like to know me?”

Interview with romance author, Erin Bevan!

Hellooooo there! 😀 Today I have romance author, Erin Bevan, for an interview! Her latest novel, WEDDING DAY, just released a few days ago and I’m thrilled to have her stop by today. Without further ado, here’s Erin!

Welcome, Erin! Tell us about WEDDING DAY. 😀

Hey LD! Thanks for having me. My latest book, Wedding Day, just released on April 13. It’s about a tough riding cowboy home resting with an injury. All in good fun, his brother makes a bet that he can’t land the new again veterinarian that’s come back to live in Frisbee. Dallas isn’t one to back down from his brother, so he takes the bet except he has no intentions of seriously dating this lady. Win the bet, and it’s over, or so he thinks.

Ha, sounds like fun! What was the hardest thing about writing this book? The easiest?

Probably the amount of rewrites I had to do. It’s taken four years for this book to see the light of day, but the time has finally come!

And cheers to that! *tips wine glass* If you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you chose? Why?

Oh, that’s hard. Probably the best friend Spencer. She’s the type of friend I would like to have, and she’s very fashionable. She could help me out!

Great answer! And fun. 😀 Speaking of fun, Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?

Yah!! Perhaps Dallas is played by Jesse Meltcalfe. (YUM)

Brittany Snow would be a good Cassie,

brittany-snow-profileand as silly as this sounds, I always pictured Miss Kay from Duck Dynasty as the mother but with acting skills!

dd-s4-kay-castbio-688x1065

Haha! Awesome! Great choices. 😀 So tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a wife and mother of three. I’m an avid coffee drinker and spend most mornings at the local YMCA. If I don’t exercise, my brain doesn’t work.

Agreed on the coffee drinking and exercise (although I surely could use more of both ;)). Tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.

Umm… I don’t know! I lived in South Korea for a few years. Maybe you don’t know that!

I did not! That is very cool! Someday I will visit. 😉 What are you working on now?

Right now, I am working on edits for my follow up release after Wedding Day. I currently don’t have a release date on this book yet. Perhaps early next year. And beginning next week, I’m taking a little break. I’m going to read a few books on craft and perfect some outlines for the next three stories I have in mind before I began actually writing again.

Fantastic! And I totally get the need for downtime. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by–it’s been a pleasure! But don’t go too far yet, Dear Reader…here’s more about WEDDING DAY!

wedding-day

BLURB:

Famous Bull Rider Dallas Day met Cassie Bailey briefly in high school, but her plain looks and quiet personality left no lasting impression on him. Cassie, however, couldn’t say the same about Dallas.

Their paths cross again ten years later when Dallas is home recovering from an injury, and Cassie is the only veterinarian who volunteers her services at the home-town rodeo. She’s jump-starting her new practice, and every eligible man within a ten-mile radius is trying to land a date with the attractive vet.

Dallas’ older brother bets him that, even with all his charm and fame, Dallas can’t land a date with the reserved lady vet. Not one to turn down a challenge, Dallas makes it his mission to win a date with Cassie. After seeing her, he realizes they’ve met before, but he doesn’t remember her being so pretty. His persistence pays off, but when Cassie finds out about the bet, their new love is put to the test.

EXCERPT:

“Is there anything I can help you with?” A deep voice asked from behind her.

“No, I think we have it.” She hopped down from the pen. Glacier blue eyes locked with hers. She would know his eyes anywhere. Her heart quickened just as it did the first time she’d ever laid her gaze upon him, and a tingling sensation shot through her.

Dallas looked older than she remembered, broader, gruffer, but still sexy.

Tucker, you have Tucker.

Where was he, anyway? In her haste to get ready, she’d forgotten to call him.

“Dallas? Yeah, we can use a hand.” Chevy still fumbled with the lock. “Can you come over here and help me with Knuckle Head? Dr. Bailey wants him to walk around so she can get a closer look.”

“I really don’t think that’s necessary–”

“I would love to help. That’s why I’m here.” Dallas jogged to the front of the bull and grabbed the lead rope with his left hand. A plastered cast circled his right wrist and rose halfway up his forearm.

She turned to Spencer and furrowed her brow.

Spencer stared back at her and displayed her pageant winning 2005 Miss Frisbee smile, her thumb up in the air. Some friend she was.

Dallas and Chevy led the bull out of the pen while she observed the bull’s gait.

“Let’s get him over by a water hose. I want to get a closer look at his foot.” She pointed toward a washing station and followed behind the men as they led the bull, sure to steer clear of Knuckle Head’s hind legs in the event he wanted to kick her.

From her position, she had a clear view of Dallas’s backside. Everything appeared to be as tight as she remembered, which did nothing to settle those distracting tingling sensations.

Focus.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

erin-bevan

Erin Bevan was born and raised in Southwest Arkansas. She spent her teenage years working for her aunt at the local gas station flipping burgers and making milkshakes, dreaming of the day when something better would come her way, and it did in the form of a five foot six, one hundred and fifty pound engineer.

Fast forward ten years later, she found herself stuck inside an apartment in South Korea while her daughter went to preschool and her husband went to work. Alone and unable to speak the local language she turned to books for a friend. After reading a few hundred in such a short time, she decided to try her hand at writing one.

That first one sucked, but by the fifth and sixth book, Erin started to get the hang of this writing thing. Getting the first contract in the mail was a dream come true. Now, with three babies at home, she squeezes in stories one word at a time, one sentence at a time, one day at a time.

She’s a full time mom, a full time wife, with a little writer sprinkled in whenever she can get the chance. And the laundry? Well, it’s best not to open the washroom door!

Interview with contemporary romance author, Ryan Jo Summers!

Contemporary romance author, Ryan Jo Summers, stopped by my blog today for an interview! I’m thrilled to have her here and I’m looking forward to learning more about her latest story, GLIMPSE ETERNITY. So without further ado…

Welcome, Ryan! Tell us about your latest release. 😀

This is a sweet contemporary novella called “Glimpse Eternity”. It is about a woman, Kasey Griffin, who has a full life, her own bookstore and the challenges of Multiple Sclerosis. She’s doing pretty good until hunky musician, Ben Salem, rolls into town and tells her he wants her heart.

A character with a medical condition? You’ve already stolen my heart! What was the hardest thing about writing this book? The easiest?

The hardest thing was facing my own demons. I do not have MS but I do face a lot of the same challenges. This book was actually written as therapy for me to come to terms and cope with my condition and limitations. In order to write it, Kasey and I both had to learn to accept our shortcomings and take a leap of faith—or a few of them—that yes, we can do this. In Kasey’s case, it was believing a man would accept her long term. For me, it was accepting this is my long term life now.

Easiest part would have been the actual writing of each scene, hooking them together into a storyline.

Writing can definitely be a form of therapy and I’m glad you were able to accomplish this for both Kasey and yourself. If you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you chose? Why?

Logan Riley from Shimmers of Stardust. He’s a Civil War hero who turned outlaw. He was hanged back in 1869 and ended up alive in our modern world. I absolutely love his cowboy logic and sometimes comical approach to this bewildering modern world. Despite how he made some bad choices in life, he still has a hero’s heart and is noble and loyal. Who wouldn’t want a handsome man like that around?

I certainly would! He sounds like a lot of fun. 😀 Speaking of fun, Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?

Harry Connick Jr. for Ben Salem. I’ve had a crush on Harry for years now and doubtlessly he’s a subconscious inspiration for musician Ben.

19869019-mmmain.jpg

Kasey… I’m not sure. Meg Ryan could do it well. I haven’t watched television in about six years so I am out of the loop as to who the ‘new people’ are these days so my answers might age the characters a bit.

meg

Great choices! 😀 So tell us a little about yourself.

Mmm, coffee. Sounds amazing! Tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.

I have no sense of smell. It’s called Anosmia. I have never had any ability to smell anything, good or bad, pleasant or strong. There is just nothing there.

Wow, that’s crazy! I can’t even imagine. Could be a good or bad thing depending on the situation. 😛 What are you working on now?

Two things: a final draft for my first ever romantic comedy. It is about finding love in the most unexpected places. Second: is my problem child. I’ve been pounding away on this novel for over two years and can happily say, with some confidence, I am nearing the finish line on the first draft. Whew! I’ll celebrate when I can finally type ‘the end’ on that literary monster. It began as inspiration from a photo, I uncharacteristically started writing without a sense of plot, storyline, characters, or even genre. I just wrote “by gut” and the story has taken its own course as the months have unfolded. Now, I have set it aside for a few weeks or months here or there to work on other projects and then pull it back to the desktop later on. But I am close to finishing it! I see Chocolate Fudge Cake in my near future!

Chocolate fudge cake is the best reward for typing “The End!” On that note, thanks so much for stopping by and spending some time with us, Ryan. 😀 Where else can we find you?

And here’s more about GLIMPSE ETERNITY!

GlimpseEternityFINAL

Kasey Griffin is determined to prove a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis isn’t going to ruin her life or define her expectations. She is dedicated to her pregnant sister, her pets and operating her bookstore, ‘The Next Chapter’. She has everything she needs to have a full and satisfying life–the daily challenges of her condition notwithstanding.

Then hunky musician Ben Salem rolls into town. Ben’s subtle charm quickly reminds Kasey she is more than a woman with a disease, she is also a woman with a heart. And Ben wants it.

Will Ben still desire her once he learns the terrible details of her condition?

SNIPPET:

Silence hung between them. Kasey shifted from foot to foot. Should she offer coffee, cook breakfast, or ask what happened that he spent the night? Self-consciously, she tugged at her hair again. Muttonchop whined at the tension slowly filling the room.

“So, does that happen often?” Ben asked slowly, cautiously, reaching out to pat Muttonchop. “Last night?”

Her eyes widened, breath caught. She felt like a deer in the headlights. So this was where he was going to walk out, she decided. Thomas padded into the room and sat, watching them. She wanted to scoop the big cat up, to hold him as a shield from what was to come. He was going to ask just enough questions to find out what was wrong with her and then decide it wasn’t for him. Who would want her once he knew? She took a breath, steeling herself for the inevitable.

“Sometimes.”

He considered that, tilting his head. “Have you seen a doctor? It seems kind of out of character for you.” He cracked a quick grin. “Please don’t look like I’m scaring you because it’s starting to scare me.”

He was scared? She was terrified. She pulled in a hard breath. “I have seen a doctor. It’s complicated.”

Author interview with sports romance author, Jennifer Doyle!

I’m so thrilled to have fellow NEC-RWA member, Jennifer Doyle, on my blog today! Her debut sports romance, CALLING IT, is out for preorder and I can’t wait to read it. 😀 Read on to learn more about Jen and her journey to publication.

Welcome, Jen! *hands you a martini…at 6AM* Tell us about your latest release!

First, thanks for having me. As a debut author, it is wonderful to be part of such a welcoming and supportive community of writers! (Agreed!)

CALLING IT is my debut book and I feel so grateful to have this first experience be with Carina Press. The book is about Nate Hawkins, a big-time baseball player whose life is crashing down around him so he heads home to small-town Iowa. Where, of course, he meets feisty librarian Dorie Donelli. Although she’s wearing her bathrobe at the time, as the youngest in a family of seven—the other six of whom are her older brothers—Dorie isn’t in any way intimidated by the hunk of man standing in her kitchen. It makes an impression on Nate that he isn’t quite ready for—and to his surprise, he keeps coming back for more.

Sounds fabulous! What was the hardest thing about writing this book? The easiest?

The hardest? Cutting! The original manuscript I queried was almost 125K. (Don’t try this at home, folks.) Anyone who knows anything—which, clearly, I didn’t at the time, LOL—knows that this is way too long, and the final product ended up at 101K. It was soooooo hard to cut complete scenes. But at the same time, my agent and editor were brilliant in their comments and those scenes definitely needed to go.

(And although most of those scenes went directly to the cutting room floor, there are some deleted scenes—and, perhaps, an Epilogue—that will show up in my newsletter when the proper time comes. If you’re interested, you can sign up at my website, which is listed below.)

In terms of the easiest? Falling in love with my characters. Some of the scenes between Nate and Dorie just came so naturally that, even after the multiple rounds of edits, almost no changes were made because they were just that right for each other.

I definitely feel your pain on cutting–you already know what my first manuscript clocked in at! 😛 And as for Nate and Dorie, I absolutely love when everything falls perfectly into place. 😀  Speaking of which, if you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you chose? Why?

Ugh—I have to choose just one? Well, I wouldn’t mind having Nate around, that’s for sure. I mean, he’s gorgeous (surprise!), has a great sense of humor, and just enough of that Alpha that, well… (Is it getting hot in here?)

But Dorie is one of those people who would be your best friend ever. And then there’s Wash. And Fitz, and Deke…

Next question? LOL.

Haha, what the heck, bring them all to life! Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?

Ooooooohhhhh… Come check out my Pinterest boards for my casting!

I’ve got Marc Blucas as Nate,

Marc-Blucas-Net-Worth

Sarah Shahi as Dorie,

Life

Chris Pratt as Deke,

6357075081857794681161325026_chris-pratt-41

Anna Kendrick as Fitz,

Anna-Kendrick-Favorite-Music-Movies-Food-Perfume

Mehcad Brooks as Wash…

Mehcad-Brooks_1434

The list goes on.

That is one SEXY cast! *fans self* So tell us a little about yourself.

I have a master’s degree in Library and Information Science (thus my love of librarians) and, after practicing as a librarian for several years, went back to my grad school program and worked there as the director of curriculum and communications for ten years. I now do a very similar job for a group of preschools in the Boston area. Luckily, my bosses and co-workers know about my sideline activities so I don’t have to hide it, thank goodness! I have three kids, three cats, and a husband who loves the kids (as one would hope, LOL) but could probably do without the cats.

LOL, my hubby says he could do without our cats, but then I catch him snuggling them intermittently. 😛 Tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.

I came very late to the romance genre. I’d grown up reading mysteries and thrillers almost exclusively (I know, I know—bad librarian; but I worked mostly in the insurance industry so it wasn’t like there were any Harlequins in among the stacks 🙂 ), and had never even picked up a romance novel until about four years ago. But once I started, I never looked back.

Romance is (obviously) my favorite genre too…but I’m always game for a thriller or mystery. 😉 What are you working on now?

I turned in the first draft of book two—CALLED UP—at the end of February. It will be available later this year. I took a couple of weeks for my brain to settle a bit, but my characters are calling to me…

That’s awesome, congratulations! Where can we find you?

All over!

BLURB:

After a near career-ending car accident and with paparazzi surrounding his penthouse, all-star catcher Nate Hawkins can only think of one place to go: home. But when he finds his old apartment occupied by a half-naked woman wielding a baseball bat, he’s not sure what to think…except that maybe his luck has finally changed for the better.

Librarian Dorie Donelli never thought she’d get to meet her fantasy man in person—much less while she’s wearing her bathrobe. To her surprise, her nearly naked run-in with Nate leads to more unclothed encounters. But Dorie is sure their fling is only temporary. As long as she remembers he’ll be gone once his life gets back on track, she won’t get hurt. In the meantime, she throws herself into enjoying their three weeks together before he has to report for spring training and go back to his old life.

SNIPPET:

This is from Chapter 8, immediately after Nate Hawkins, i.e., Dorie Donelli’s long-time celebrity crush, has asked if he could see her later that night:

Wait, like an actual date? With all these crazy emotions and strange feelings swirling around them? It was one thing to hang out. To banter and tease. To strip naked and do his bidding. “Uh… Um…”

She wanted sex with her imaginary boyfriend come to life, with the gorgeous fantasyland superstar baseball player. She did not—could not—allow herself to think beyond that. Not when the true-to-life man was so much more than she’d ever dreamed—so much more that she could see herself losing focus. Getting caught up and taking her eyes off her own goals. And if Courtney Knight, billionaire trust fund baby, beautiful muse for, at last count, three musicians and one painter, and brilliant morning news anchorwoman, was now primarily known as Nate Hawkins’s Ex-Fiancée, well, Dorie Donelli did not stand a chance. It was so against her New Life directive that it wasn’t even funny.

Author Interview with YA fantasy author, Melissa Crispin!

I’m so thrilled to have my fellow CoLoNY member, Melissa Crispin, for an author interview on my blog today! Melissa just released her debut YA fantasy novel, COLLIDE, and it looks sooo good! Read on to find out more about Melissa and her writing–you won’t be disappointed. 😀

Welcome, Melissa! Let’s get right to it and tell us about your latest release.

My debut novel, COLLIDE, is a young adult fantasy with strong romantic elements. There are larger than life stakes, with a good old-fashioned love triangle in the middle of the chaos.

Kayla Reynolds is a high school senior that plans to ditch town at the end of the year and pursue becoming a ballerina. Her boyfriend, Luke, is planning to come with her and they have this happily ever after already formed in their minds. But, bumping into this other guy named Alec awakens knowledge Kayla had tucked away in her subconscious mind. Alec has the ability to meet her in her dreams and take her to Afterlife, where she’s reunited with her deceased father. This changes everything.

Her newfound knowledge isn’t all kittens and rainbows though. She finds herself in a situation where the balance between Earth, Afterlife, and Heaven are at stake, and if the evil forces succeed, Earth and Afterlife will cease to exist.

That’s sounds fantastic! Love the idea of the dream rendezvous. What was the hardest thing about writing this book? The easiest?

Prior to writing this book, everything I had tackled was geared toward adults. When I started the first draft, I held back a little with the voices in my head. I feared that too much cursing or perceived inappropriate behavior would not be well-received in YA. I still do fear this a little, to be honest. I think the trepidation was evident in the earlier drafts, and at some point I decided to let go, and let the words fly. I came to the realization that kids in high school do all kinds of things adults deem inappropriate. I told myself to stop being such a crochety old lady and to just go for it.

The easiest part about writing this book was writing from Kayla’s point of view. I was working on a different project when her character started whispering in my ear, and she just wouldn’t shut up. Her story demanded my attention, and I eventually shelved the project I was working on in favor of this one.

I can totally understand your trepidation, but I know I was a punk ass kid in high school and had my fair share of trouble, LOL. It seems a lot of concepts that work in adult fiction can certainly fit into YA (even more so, sometimes). If you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you chose? Why?

I would choose Kayla’s boyfriend, Luke. He’s a good mix of boy next door and badass which makes him well-rounded in my opinion. 🙂

Now that’s a mix I like! 😉 Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?

Wouldn’t that be nice! 😛

For Kayla, I would choose Elle Fanning. I loved her as Princess Aurora in Maleficent and I could picture her in a role as an aspiring ballerina.

MV5BMTc0ODA1MjY5M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzcwMDYzOQ@@._V1_UX214_CR0,0,214,317_AL_

For Alec, I think a younger version of Scott Eastwood would be perfect. Okay, so he’s not in high school, but neither am I, so you’ll have to work with me on that one. 😉 He strikes me as a swoon worthy guy who would be good at protecting his lady. Check out this article where he sneaks in a shirtless workout. Go ahead. I’ll wait. You won’t be sorry! http://www.people.com/article/scott-eastwood-shirtless-workout-pictures

scott-eastwood-07-768

(DAMN!)

I’d love to see Theo James, Four, from the Divergent movies, play Luke. Again, not of high school age so it would have to be a younger version of him, but I love how he shows both a tough side and a gentle side in those movies, which is a lot like Luke.

Theo-James

Great choices! I’d definitely watch that movie. 😉 So tell us a little about yourself.

I work full-time, and I’m married with two kids. I squeeze in time to write whenever I can, which can be challenging, but definitely worth the effort. Oh, and two years ago, our family rescued a Siberian Husky who hated me at first and now is constantly by my side.

Siberian Huskies are gorgeous dogs! And I definitely get the difficulty in balancing writing time with everything else. But we all manage, don’t we? 😉 Tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.

I have a soft spot for old-school 80’s hair metal music. If you name a band from that era, I probably had their album on tape (yes, I said tape) and there’s a good chance they’re on my phone too. 🙂 Motley Crue, Poison, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, the list goes on and on…What ever happened to the power ballad, people?

Oh my God, I’m totally with you! I’ve been listening to Poison lately and my hubby thinks I’m nuts, LOL. Anywho, what are you working on now?

I’m working on a new adult, sci-fi romance. The President’s daughter falls in love with a galactic garbage man, only to find out that he’s the son of a powerful mob leader. They end up in the middle of some shady dealings between their fathers, but find time for some heated scenes in between.

And since I’ve read a little bit of this already, I’m excited to read the rest! Thanks so much for stopping by, Melissa, and sharing a bit of yourself and your stories with us. Where else can we find you?

EXCERPT:

Luke nodded. “Let me get this straight. So, this guy, he can heal your leg, protect you from something that isn’t yet clear to me, and bring you to some otherworldly place, where you’re reunited with your father?”

“Yeah.” There was that word again.

He pulled his hand out of mine and ran his fingers through his hair. “Well, that’s pretty damn hard to compete with.”

“Luke, this isn’t a competition. This is my life. He’s already saved me once.”

“And I’ll do it again,” Alec said.

Luke pointed a finger at Alec. “I don’t care what you can do. I don’t like you. You stole my girl, who’s pregnant with my baby.” Luke stepped around me and got in Alec’s face. “She will always have a part of me in her life.”

Alec slowly shook his head. “Not new news, and for the record, you stole her from me. So, you don’t get to play that card.”

The tension thickened in the air until the hairs stood on the back of my neck.

“She never said a word to you before all this weird shit started to go down.” Luke poked Alec in the chest. “You’re a liar.”

“It’s true,” I whispered.

Luke whirled around. “What?”

“Before us. It was him.”

Luke opened his mouth, as if to say something, but snapped it shut. He finally spoke after a long moment. “You said I was your first boyfriend. Your first kiss. Your first everything with a guy. You lied to me?”

“At the time, I thought that was true. He finds me in my dreams and takes me to Afterlife. That’s how we met. I never even knew he was real. I thought he was a boy in some recurring dream. I never even remembered until I barreled him over in the hallway one day by accident. His touch jarred my memory.”

Luke’s eyes were wild. “Do me a favor. Do not talk about touching him, ever, in my presence.”

“I’m sorry, Luke. That’s why this is so difficult. I’m only now remembering things that happened before us. It’s … confusing.”

“You were with him? Actually with him, before me?”

I swallowed. “We were sort of dating.”

“That’s not what I meant.” A muscle ticked in Luke’s jaw, and realization dawned on me.

“Oh, no. We didn’t.” I cleared my throat. “Not that…”

“I don’t know what you’re so pissed about. You’re the one who got to have a real relationship with her,” Alec said.

“Shut up. Just shut the hell up.” Luke gently brushed me to the side, leaving him and Alec staring each other down. “You’re an asshole.”

“Hate me, if you want. Call me whatever you want. But that girl right there?” He pointed to me. “She needs me. I swore to protect her, and I don’t give a shit about what you think. I’m her best shot at survival. Your baby’s, too. So, next time you get in my face, remember their lives are at stake and that your guns can’t fight off the shit that’s coming.”

“Asshole,” Luke muttered.

“Douche,” Alec said under his breath.

“Stop fighting,” I said from behind Luke’s back.

“You’re a loser. A loser, with no friends and no life, who came in and stole my girlfriend. Even if she chooses you, you’ll have to help her with my baby. Every time you look at our kid, you’ll be reminded of who was there first.”

I took a step outward to try to get between them, but Alec swung before I could, and as his fist connected with Luke’s face, Luke charged him, sending them both tumbling toward the ground.

Fists flew and grunts sounded in the scuffle as they rolled, each trying to get the upper hand.

“Stop!” I yelled.

Interview with romantic suspense author, Amy Deason!

Well, hello there, ladies and gents! Been awhile since I’ve had an author interview and what a great way to start than with romantic suspense author,  Amy Deason! I’m halfway through her debut novel, ANGELS IN THE SHADOWS, and so far it’s delicious! Her hero, Seth, is to die for (literally) and you should all check him out for yourselves. 😉 But more on that later. Without further ado…

Welcome, Amy! I’m thrilled to have you here. Tell us about your latest release.

Angel in the Shadows is a suspenseful romance novel. Good guy versus bad guy with an innocent young woman caught in the middle. Seth Reynolds is a part of a highly secret organization called The Perfect Order. His current mission has him undercover as a personal assistant to the wealthy billionaire, Vance Goldston. A billionaire that happens to have a God Complex and is intent on killing thousands of people for his own benefit. The plan to dispose of Vance is all set and ready to go until Madison Sinclair, a photographer covering a party at Vance’s mansion, inadvertently witnesses something she shouldn’t have. So now Seth has to keep her alive while still fulfilling his mission of taking Vance out.

And yes, this story is as awesome as it sounds! What was the hardest thing about writing this book? The easiest?

Believe it or not, the hardest part of writing this book was writing from Madison’s point of view. It took me a long time to get inside her head. However, the easiest part was writing Seth’s point of view. It’s kind of scary how easy his thoughts and words came out…

I’m totally on the same page as you (pun intended, ha). I definitely prefer to write from the male POV than female. If you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you chose? Why?

I think if I could bring one of my characters to life, it would most likely be Seth. I choose him because there is just something so intriguing about someone that is able to disappear and reappear like magic all the while trying to do his best to save innocent lives.

I’d bring him to life for much different reasons. 😛 Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?

For Seth Reyonlds, I would choose Timothy Olyphant. If you have ever watched Hitman, then you have seen Seth Reynolds only bald. Timothy`s character is exactly how I picture Seth. Cold, ruthless, highly skilled but when a woman’m an comes into the picture, he is less than secure with the situation.

Actor Timothy Olyphant

For Madison Sinclair, it would have to be Carey Mulligan. She has a pretty girl-next-door quality, which is perfect for Maddie.

Careymulligan

For the evil Vance Goldston, it would be William Baldwin. Handsome, successful and a billionaire.

william-baldwin

And for the anonymous Charlie Dubois, the leader of The Perfect Order, Cate Blanchett.

Awesome cast! Tell us a little about yourself.

Well, I have always loved to read and I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I am a busy mother of three and I am married to the most wonderful man in the world who I am totally in love with. I love sappy movies (Twilight-TOTALLY team Edward, Titanic-why couldn’t they have shared that big piece of wood or took turns at least, City of Angels, Remember Me, etc) and scary movies (although the characters in The Grudge and The Ring completely terrify me), and I am a sucker for borderline pretty guys (think Robert Pattinson or my delicious hubby 🙂 )

OMG, I thought the same freaking thing in Titanic! I’m like WTF, share that piece of wood, damn it! Ugh. ANYWAY, tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.

Ok, here it goes…I am deathly afraid of grasshoppers. When I was little, my younger sister would chase me around the house with them. And let me tell you, it is absolutely horrifying to be chased by someone holding one of those nasty, alien-like, jumping things…

Haha! I don’t particularly care for them either, but I’ve never been terrified of insects (except maybe bees, but that’s because I’m afraid of going into anaphylactic shock, lol). But I digress. So I’m dying to know, what are you working on now?

Whenever I can catch a free moment (doesn’t happen every often), I work on the second book in The Perfect Order series–Stone Cold Angel. Or one of my other endeavors including a children’s book series and a serial killer series.

Sounds fantastic! Tell us where can we find you so we can keep up to speed on such endeavors. 😀
